ASC-1302 Replacement ASC-1302 Replacement

Versatile measuring instruments (VMI) is not only a provider of design or manufacturing solutions, but also well recognized for reverse engineering solutions. When our customers face obsolescence issues they turn to VMI to provide form, fit and functional replacements. The underlying objective of every VMI’s reverse engineering project is to deliver a drop-in replacement that reduces the impact on station documentation.

Obsolescence Solutions

When we were asked to provide a replacement for some obsolete Rochester Instruments Signal Isolators, our customer had only minimal documentation available for us to work with. In general, for most reverse engineering projects VMI utilizes the following types of documents when designing a replacement:

  • OEM Datasheets
  • Application Specifications
  • Existing manuals/Drawings
  • Product Samples
OEM Sample OEM Sample

In the event that the documentation available does not provide all the answers to the variables in the design, the VMI design-engineering team will prepare a design specification, to fill in any gaps. Upon request, the customer has access to this design specification and the final stamp of approval. This process ensures transparency in the design in order to guarantee that the design meets the specifications and expectations of the customer.

Fit, Form and Functional

For this project, a design specification was necessary to be completed prior to starting the design, and our customer was fully integrated in this process. Once approved, the product was designed, manufactured and qualified by VMI. The result was a fit, form and functional replacement for the Rochester Amplifier ASC-1302.
