Product Design Engineer: Instrumentation and Controls

 

Summary:

This position is responsible for reviewing the customer’s specifications for a new product design, then translating those requirements into a precise design package that will be used to develop the product.

This design package will include the scope and concept of the design complete with detailed design specifications and verification test plans. This position is also responsible for technically support the engineering design and development team that will complete the design based upon the design package developed.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Technically review project documents supplied by customer, including: design specifications and requirements as well as technical documents related to the existing product that the new design will replace, such as schematics and manuals.
  • Develop a project design scope and concept to ensure product will meet required specification.
  • Author a comprehensive design package, including: design specifications; final design concept; and verification test plan for the new product.
  • Ensure all products comply to both the US nuclear quality standards (10CFR50 App B, NQA-1) and to the Canadian nuclear quality standards (CSA CAN Z 299.2, where applicable.
  • Work with project management to development tasks and integrate deliverables into the project.
  • Technically support the engineering design and development team that will complete the design.

 

Qualifications:

  • Electrical Engineer or Technologist
  • Minimum 5 years design experience in a product development environment.
  • Experience in all technical areas such as Mechanical and Electronic instrumentation manufacturing to create design concepts, identify risks and make key technical decisions.
  • Very strong analog and digital instrumentation design skills.
  • Competent at hands-on design and overseeing technical aspect of project.
  • Experience in designing to EMC and safety standards.
  • Practical knowledge and familiarity with the concepts and methods of reverse engineering. 
  • Expected to apply a high level of critical thinking when bringing alternative solutions to complex problems not covered by existing procedures or practices.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills along with excellent interpersonal skills.
