Amidyne Group and Innovative Testing Solutions Form Strategic Alliance

Innovative Testing Solutions (ITS) is pleased to announce a strategic alliance with Versatile Measuring Instruments, Inc. (VMI), a subsidiary of Amidyne Group based in Newmarket Canada.

ITS, established in 1999, is a provider of testing services to the energy storage and automotive industries and is also located in Newmarket. VMI is an instrumentation manufacturer that also provides Reverse Engineering, Seismic Qualification and Commercial Grade Dedication Services for the nuclear power industry. VMI’s 3’ X 3’ triaxial seismic simulation table has a 10,000 lb capability that can operate with a ZPA up to 20 g and frequencies up to 200 Hz.  Several VMI Engineers support dedication services and are proficient in the EPRI 5652 dedication processes.

VMI has served the nuclear industry in Canada for over 40 years, and entered the US nuclear market two years ago.  Their quality program satisfies Canadian and US standards such as 10CFR50 Appendix B and ASME-NQA-1.

ITS operates from a 21,000 square foot facility with a large testing lab.  The lab is equipped with a 1.6 MW power supply (1600 amps, three phase 600V), plant-wide compressed air system, a 100-ton cooling system supporting all areas of the facilities testing stations.  The company has multiple drive-in and reach-in environmental test chambers, a large vibration pitch table in a sound room, full machine shop services, multiple channel servo hydraulic test bed, multiple data acquisition systems and multiple universal PLC systems.

This Strategic Alliance expands the testing and dedication services offered by both companies.

About Innovative Testing Solutions

Innovative Testing Solutions (ITS) 2010 Limited was founded in 1999 as a mechanical and destructive testing facility which focused primarily on the testing and validation of automotive components and assemblies.  The company experienced progressive growth between the 2000 to 2007 timeframe.  Like so many automotive based companies, ITS was influenced by the automotive sector slowdown in 2008.  To combat the reduction of automotive OEM work in the area of mechanical testing, the board at ITS developed a new corporate strategy to expand testing capabilities into the area of energy storage devices for hybrid and electric vehicle applications.  The company has invested heavily in battery testing equipment, and made the necessary facility upgrades to accommodate all aspects of battery development and validation.  Another strategic acquisition involved hiring Erik Spek, Director of Engineering and he began to spearhead all technical aspects of the new business strategy, drawing upon his 20 years of energy storage device knowledge, applications and testing experience.  Erik is regarded as a global expert in the field of batteries and energy storage systems.

The Facility:

ITS encompasses a 21,000 square foot facility.  The lab is equipped with a 1.6 MW power supply (1600 amps, three phase 600V),  plant wide compressed air system, a 100 ton cooling system supporting all areas of the facilities testing stations, multiple loading docks & drive-in doors,   modern offices, workstations, and boards rooms along with other amenities corresponding to the Ontario Health and Safety Act, Ontario Employment Act etc. (washrooms, lunch room, first aid stations).  The computer network of the building has been configured for LAN connections, along with wireless capability for automated data logging everywhere in the facility.

Mechanical and Environmental Equipment:

ITS has multiple drive-in and reach-in environmental chambers, a large vibration pitch table in a sound room, full machine shop services, multiple channel servo hydraulic test bed, Multiple data acquisition systems, Multiple universal PLC systems, and much more.

Battery Testing Facilities:

ITS has 12 battery cyclers with environmental testing capability.  Each system can be controlled with Labview and can communicate with CAN bus messaging.  ITS also has a large abuse chamber to perform UN testing on battery cells and modules.
